All that remains to show any sign that a railway once crossed the Derwent at this point is the bridge abutment on the east side of the river. This photograph was taken in August 2004.
The Derwent, which flows through the Forge Valley itself is the only major river encountered by the line. It was spanned by a 84ft iron girder bridge.
The bridge was removed shortly after track lifting was completed in 1952/1953. Today, little evidence remains of any railway leading to where the bridge once was. The eastern-most pillar is however still visible.
