Scarborough - Londesborough Road Excursion Station

In the late 1890s, the excursion platforms of Scarborough Station became insufficiant. The North Eastern Railway obtained powers to build Londesborough Road Excursion station on the site of the old engine shed.

The new station cost £7,500 while a new bridge was built to replace Washbeck Viaduct for the extra running tracks which cost nearly £5,500. At Northstead the four miles of sidings for excursions cost just over £4,000 and a new Washbeck Signal Box cost £400.

Londesborough Road Station opened on 8 June 1908. Scarborough Station was known as Scarborough Central from then on. At the new station there was one 300yard long through platform and one 250yard long bay platform. Most excursion traffic used the through platform, then passing through Falsgrave Tunnel to the sidings at Northstead.

Closure came on 4 July 1966 although the last train departed on 24 August 1963.
