Benjamin Fieldsend
Benjamin Fieldsend was station master at Snainton from opening of the line on 1st May 1882 until 1922. He was born at Wellingore in Linconshire and his father was also called Benjamin. In 1881, just a year before the Forge Valley Line opened, Benjamin was a 'Railway Messenger'.
When the 1881 census was taken, his job had taken him to Durham to visit the Hogg family. He was aged 24 when he started working at Snainton. From the census it can be seen that Benjamin married Louisa and had two children, Mary and Benjamin.
